Bio
Drawing from artists of the English songwriter era such as Sting, Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel The New Article fuses strong song structure with an electric sound, a colourful and varied blend of funk, rock, pop and electro. Their sound incorporates vintage synths, drum machine and live instruments in a way that harks back to the 80s and 90s but still maintain a fresh, Melbourne Underground edge. They use a laptop for live drum machine tracks as well as Ben Todd on drum kit. Although groove and arrangement are a big part of the band, The New Article succeeds in making each song excellent structurally and lyrically and also explores new devices in the composition as well. Other influences include Indie-Electro bands such as The Presets and The Dukes of Windsor, Jazz, Funk and Latin, 80s bands like Tears for Fears, Genesis and The Police.

To The Fire

Someone get Patrick Bateman on the phone - this is the perfect MOR soundtrack for serial killing. You might think these kids jest when they suggest Phil Collins is a benchmark for their sound, but this soft and smooth rock backed by breezy synths is reminiscent of Sting, Chris Rea and Hall & Oates. Uncoolly cool.
